Arts Council

The Arts Council was created by Resolution 2004-7 and serves the purpose of fostering community appreciation and involvement in visual and performing arts. The council will provide a wide range of programming, services, support and cultural education for the Town. The Council is comprised of not less than 5 nor more than 8 residents with similar interests in the arts. Terms expire annually on January 31. The current membership is as follows:

Charles Lipuma (chairman), Lenni Freeburg, Bill Blizard, Mary Johnson, Carol Anne Smalley, Sid Williams, Arie De Zanger, Gloria Fenning and Julie Fenimore.

MEETING SCHEDULE: The Arts Council meets on the second Thursday of each month at 3PM. Contact Town Hall at 768-9166 if you would like to be placed on the Arts Council notification fax or email list.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES the council provides a variety of functions:

  • Preparation and distribution of a "Who's Who" list of members of the Kiawah community directly involved in the arts.
  • Developing and maintaining a list of volunteer for events and potential facilities.
  • Preparation, distribution and analysis of an Assessment Questionnaire.
  • Developing relationships with local, state, regional and national arts organizations.
  • Developing relationships with schools, businesses and other organizations supporting the arts.
  • Plan and implement an Arts Calendar and make such information readily available throughout the community.
  • Make recommendations to the Town council on a yearly events budget, methods of funding and any other matters as the Town Council may direct.
