Emergency Preparedness
Kiawah Island is a barrier island and, as such, is particularly susceptible to damage from severe weather. Natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and earthquakes are potential hazards that need to be addressed not only by organizations like the Town and Community Association, but also by individual residents and property owners.
The Town of Kiawah Island was involved in formulation of the Charleston Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. This plan is updated annually and describes the different hazards the Charleston area faces and ways to address these hazards.
