The Town of Kiawah Island sponsors four brown trash days each year: March, June, September and December. On these days, residents and property owners can place "brown trash" at the curb for collection. The Town's contractor will not collect any objects made of wood or plastic on Brown Trash Days. Those items, if small in size, can be placed with the regular garbage collection.

Brown Trash is considered to be metallic items that cannot go in the regular garbage collection due to restrictions imposed by the Charleston County Landfill. Metallic items cannot go in the incinerator and, therefore, must be placed in the landfill.
