Recycling
Recycling gives each of us a way to help the environment by preserving our natural resources, saving energy and turning trash into useful products. Charleston County and Kiawah Island are required by state laws to reduce garbage disposal and the best way is to do this is through recycling. You can lighten your garbage load by placing these items in your bin at curbside on collection day.
All recycling bins are collected curbside.
ALUMINUM Clean beverage cans, foil and pie plates
STEEL CANS Rinsed and clean metal food and beverage cans and empty aerosol cans. Labels are okay.
GLASS Rinsed and unbroken jars and bottles. Remove and throw away all lids.
PLASTIC CONTAINERS All plastics with a recycling symbol. Please Rinse soda bottles, milk jugs, detergent bottles, etc. No plastic bags.
NEWSPAPERS Junk mail, magazines, office paper, brown paper bags, catalogs & phone books. Should be placed in brown paper bag beside the bin or tied with twine and placed under bin.
Cardboard Corrugated Cardboard. The Container at Town Hall accepts broken down and flattened corrugated cardboard boxes.
WE CANNOT RECYCLE window glass, plate glass, light bulbs, mirrors, plastic grocery bags, cereal or laundry boxes, plastic flower trays or any item you don't see here. Product quality is very important.
IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE TO BIN IT!
The Town also operates a recycling center located on Sora Rail Road, behind the Fire Station.
