Beach Rules & Regulations on Kiawah Island

The following rules apply to Kiawah Island's beach:


  • March 16-October 31 Pets on the beach must be on a leash at all times unless in "Dog Use Areas" located east of the Beach Club & west of Beachwalker Park.  Owners may unleash their pets from November 1 through March 15 on all areas of the beach except those designated as "Critical Habitat Areas" if the pets are controlled by voice command and the owners are in possession of a leach for use if requested by other beachgoers.  Pets are not allowed in sections of the beach designated as “Critical Areas.” Please leash your pets at all times around the island’s ponds as this is known alligator habitat.  Please click  to view an interactive Dog Leash Law Map. 

  • No littering

  • Please clean up after your pet. Mutt-Mitts are available at most boardwalks.

  • No glass containers allowed on beach

  • Recycling containers are available at many boardwalks. Please help out Kiawah by recycling appropriate materials.

  • Overnight storage of beach equipment (e.g. chairs, umbrellas, etc.) is prohibited 

  • No fires or fireworks 
     
  • No overnight sleeping or public nudity 
     
  • DO NOT enter bird nesting areas
     
  • DO NOT walk through the dunes for any reason.  Help us protect our fragile dune system.

  • DO NOT disturb, harm, harass or otherwise disturb any sea turtle (including eggs and hatchlings), marine mammals or any shorebird (including eggs and young). Beached or stranded sea turtles, whales or dolphins should be reported to the Town (843-768-9166).  

These rules are in place to protect you, your friends and family, and the precious wildlife that is found on Kiawah's beach.
