Family Safety

  • Drink plenty of water during recreational activities to prevent dehydration. Use sunscreen.
  • Protect yourself from mosquitos and no-see-ums by wearing pants, long sleeves and/or bug spray. In the warm months, these flying insects are present throughout the day but are worse at dawn and dusk.
  • DO NOT approach, feed or taunt alligators.
  • Use bicycles and skates responsibly. Stay on trails and off the roads and golf cart paths.
  • Biking and jogging on Kiawah Island Parkway (inside the gate), Governor's Drive, and Ocean Course Drive is prohibited.
  • Obey speed limits. Watch out for pedestrians, bikers, golfers, skaters, and wildlife, especially deer.
  • Fireworks and firearms are prohibited on the island.
  • Gas and electric grills are ONLY permitted to be used on decks of single family homes. Do not use grills on decks or balconies of condos or villas.
