Diana Cohen - "Brahms"
Chase the winter blues away with an afternoon of fine chamber music. Diana Cohen, violinist, who won the hearts of Charleston music lovers as concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra from 2003-2006, is returning to the Lowcountry to perform at Kiawah with colleagues Julie Landsman, horn, and Andrius Zlabys, piano, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Sunday, January 20, at 4:00 p.m. Their program entitled Brahms! will feature the beautiful horn trio by Johannes
Brahms, Op. 40, as well as other works.
Diana Cohen was appointed concertmaster of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra in Michigan in September 2007. She currently divides her time between chamber music, solo performances, and orchestral work. Ms. Cohen is a member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the
International Sejong Soloists, and is a regular substitute in the New York Philharmonic. Her 2007-2008 season includes solo appearances with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, the Valdosta Symphony, and with orchestras in Bulgaria Julie Landsman is principal hornist of the
Metropolitan Opera Orchestra with whom she has performed since 1985. Among her numerous recording credits are performances with the New York Philharmonic and as the horn soloist on the Wagner Ring Cycle recording with James Levine conducting. Pianist Andrius Zlabys has appeared
nationally and internationally as soloist and chamber musician. A prizewinner of the 2003 Cleveland International Piano Competition , he has performed as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony and the Cleveland Orchestra.
This free concert is open to all in the Charleston area. Tickets are available at Kiawah Island Town Hall beginning January 7, 2008.
