From the very first administration in 1988, the idea of a Town Hall was well received. Property on Beachwalker Road was acquired and, in 1995, the construction process began.
In the early phases of design of the Municipal Center, it was decided that the building would not only be built to accommodate Town staff, but to also accommodate the Community Association's Administrative staff and a satellite office of the Charleston County Convention and Visitor's Bureau. The building also includes a Council Chambers.
In 1997, construction of the Municipal Center was completed. Subsequent additions have included a Town garage and completion of additional office and storage space on the second floors of both wings.
