COVID-19 Antibody Testing
As previously announced, the Town is partnering with MUSC to offer COVID-19 antibody testing to residents next week. Testing for the COVID-19 antibody indicates whether an individual has been exposed to COVID-19 and has possibly developed antibodies to the virus. The antibody test requires a blood draw, which will be taken by MUSC staff.
This testing opportunity is directed at those property owners for whom Kiawah Island is their legal full-time primary residence. MUSC’s total testing capability is limited to approximately 1,200. This is less than Kiawah’s full-time resident population of approximately 1,600 and assumes that not all full-time residents will participate. We recognize that there is a broader community interest in receiving this test. If there are tests available, we will open this testing to all other Kiawah Island property owners on the final day of testing on a first-come basis (see details that follow). Based on the amount of demand for the test, we will consider scheduling additional testing opportunities.
Details for this testing opportunity as follow:
Schedule for Testing
Testing will be conducted May 18 through May 20 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s West Beach Conference Center (2 Shipwatch Rd, Kiawah Island) on a first-come-first-served basis.
May 18-19 will be reserved for full-time Kiawah Island residents. *Full-time residents are defined as those whose primary residence is a Kiawah address and is reflected on their state-issued ID. MUSC will need participants to bring their photo ID and Medicare or private insurance card. A self-pay option is also available, if elected MUSC will bill you directly at a later date.
Monday, May 18
- Full-time Kiawah residents* last names beginning with A-L.
Tuesday, May 19
- Full-time Kiawah residents* last names beginning with M-Z.
Wednesday, May 20
- Full-time Kiawah property owners who were not able to be tested on Monday or Tuesday

Who is eligible for testing?
Antibody testing is available for asymptomatic residents 18 years of age and older. All residents will be screened for symptoms prior to entering the conference center. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please visit MUSC virtual care to be screened for diagnostic testing.
What do I need to know?
This test requires a blood draw. Please be sure that you are adequately hydrated and wear a shirt that allows access above your elbow.
What information do I need to bring?
Medicare and most private insurance providers cover the cost of the test. You will need to bring your driver’s license or similar identification and Medicare or private insurance card. A self-pay option is also available, if elected MUSC will bill you directly at a later date.
Where do I go?
Parking is available in the lot at the entrance to the West Beach Conference Center. Kiawah CERT team members will be on-site to direct you once you enter the building.
What safety and social distancing precautions will be followed?
Once you enter the building, you will need to wear a face mask. If you do not come with one, one will be provided to you by MUSC as you enter the building. Inside the building, the number of persons and spacing between persons waiting for their test will be controlled. Outside of the Conference Center, we ask that you similarly follow social distancing recommendations as you enter the building.
How long will I have to wait?
MUSC can process approximately 40-45 tests per hour. There could be a wait time depending on the flow of participants. The CERT team volunteers will be able to provide you with information about wait times as you drive in.
How will I receive my results?
Information on receiving your test results will be provided to you by MUSC as you check-in. All results will be provided to you directly by MUSC and are subject to all HIPPA privacy requirements.
We are pleased that we can provide this testing opportunity. As earlier communicated, it will be MUSC’s first opportunity to provide this to a community at this larger scale. A high degree of resident participation is important, and we hope residents will take the opportunity to participate.
