EF-1 Tornado on Kiawah Confirmed by National Weather Service
Following the severe weather event on Monday, the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston Office conducted a damage survey to determine whether a tornado touched down on Kiawah Island. The results of the survey confirmed that an EF-1 tornado did occur on Kiawah Island at approximately 8:33 a.m. on Monday, April 13 and reached wind speeds of 105 mph. Debris
Debris cleanup is underway and collection will continue on Thursdays. Large tree debris that requires the use of a landscape contractor must be removed by the contractor. Loose debris must be placed in paper bags. Do not block fire hydrants, cable, or electrical boxes. It is illegal to place debris on undeveloped lots. Violators are subject to be fined.
