Hurricane Dorian Update #1
Today the Town participated in the tri-county conference call with Charleston County Emergency Management Department and regional counterparts to discuss Hurricane Dorian. Governor Henry McMaster has issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency and has urged South Carolinians to prepare for the possibility of Hurricane Dorian impacting the state. Residents and property owners are advised to monitor local media, review their hurricane plans, and begin to prepare their property or make contact with their property managers.
The most recent forecast shows an increased likelihood of the storm turning north and raises the potential for impact to the Mid-Atlantic states positioning South Carolina in the cone of uncertainty. South Carolina is expected to experience heavy rainfall, tropical-storm-force winds and storm surge beginning as soon as Wednesday.
The Town, along with the Community Association, is working together for advanced preparations in the event that our area would be directly affected.
As a reminder, we are currently experiencing a King Tide cycle through Sunday. King Tides are the highest seasonal tides that naturally occur each year that may cause flooding of low-lying areas. This is particularly true when a King Tide event coincides with significant precipitation. Please use caution while driving in areas prone to flooding.
You can expect the next update tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
If there is breaking news, we will release that information before our scheduled communication.
