Hurricane Irma – Update
Today the Town participated in a conference call with Charleston County Emergency Management Department and regional counterparts to discuss Hurricane Irma.
Hurricane Irma is an incredibly powerful Category 5 hurricane and all the forecast models indicate that it will turn to the north. The exact timing of a turn northward is unknown making it difficult to determine what the specific impacts to South Carolina will be.
The official report from the National Weather Service is that there is tremendous uncertainty about Irma’s path. It will likely be Friday before they can cultivate a more direct path.
The Town along with Community Association and the Resort have already begun working together for advanced preparations in the event that our area would be directly affected.
Please be aware there are already strong rip currents and high surf along the Atlantic Ocean. Please use caution.
Tomorrow at 12:00 p.m., the Town will follow Charleston County’s lead and move to OPCON 4. The Town will continue to monitor Hurricane Irma and communicate necessary information to our residents.
