Update on Proposed Medical Village on Betsy Kerrison

On Nov. 13, the Charleston County Planning Commission held a meeting on the planned development zoning district request for the Island Park Place Medical Health and Wellness Village. This request was to rezone the properties located along Betsy Kerrison Parkway (TMS# 203-00-00-048 and 203-00-00-053) from R-4, Residential (low density residential) to Planned Development, PD-187, to allow for large scale medical office park with associated retail and residential uses. County Staff Recommendation
Charleston County staff recommended the disapproval of the rezoning request due to the scale and intensity of the proposed development being incompatible with the existing land use pattern of the area and that it is inconsistent with the Comprehensive Plan Future Land Use recommendation.

Public Comments
Many residents/stakeholders of the surrounding areas spoke during the public comments session in opposition of the proposed project. Suggestions were made that the future land use remains a low density residential property.

Planning Commission Motion
The Charleston County Planning Commission voted to accept staff’s recommendation for disapproval.
