The Charleston Symphony Orchestra Strings and the Lowcountry’s own Charlton Singleton join together on Kiawah Island for a night of stunning music that fuses both genres of classical and jazz.
Charlton Singleton was born and raised in Charleston, and by the time he went to middle school, he had mastered piano, violin, cello and trumpet. Thanks to his grandfather singing to him, Charlton knew and loved music since he could remember. Charlton went on to attend college at both the Berklee College of Music and South Carolina State College earning his degree in music performance. Charlton’s whole life has been about music, and the Post and Courier even stated, “To say Charlton Singleton is a musician is basically the same as saying that an alligator is a reptile or that the sea is salty. I truly believe that if one were to look at Singleton’s DNA under a microscope, one would see actual musical notes connecting the strands together.”
Charlton is known across the Lowcountry as a face of jazz performance being the conductor and artistic director of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra since 2008. Charlton Singleton brings his jazzy artistic direction to life in collaboration with the classical CSO Strings for an evening you won’t forget.
