Town Council Special Call Meeting – Proposed Ordinance 2020-04
Town Council will meet on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. to consider a recommendation to impose, for the next 30 days, a requirement that face coverings be worn in certain public areas within the Town of Kiawah Island. The entire text of the proposed ordinance can be found here. This text is subject to revision based on the discussion at tomorrow’s meeting.
The key provisions of this action are to:
- Require customers and employees to wear a face covering when inside any business establishment within the Town, other than a restaurant;
- Require restaurants to mandate that their employees who have direct contact with customers wear face coverings;
- Require persons, while waiting to enter a restaurant or while waiting for take-out, to wear a face covering unless social distancing of six feet or more can be maintained.
The proposed ordinance includes certain exceptions for young children and persons with certain health issues that prevent the wearing of a face covering. Violators will initially be informed of the face covering requirement and asked to comply. Failure to do so can result in a $25 fine to an individual and $100 to a business.
You are encouraged to review the ordinance. If you wish to provide any comments, you may do so in person at the Town Council meeting or send your comments by email to Stephanie Tillerson, Town Administrator at stillerson@kiawahisland.org or Craig Weaver, Mayor at cweaver@kiawahisland.org .
