Organizations

The Town of Kiawah Island was incorporated by the State of South Carolina on September 13, 1988. It operates as a Mayor-Council form of government. Within the island, there are several major organizations listed below.

Kiawah Island Community Association (KICA)
Community-AssociationIncorporated in 1976, The Kiawah Island Community Association (KICA) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and enhance the quality of life and property values of its members. All property owners on Kiawah Island become members of KICA upon purchase of their property. The association owns, maintains, insures and improves many common properties. KICA also provides security on the island, enforces its covenants and rules and regulations, and seeks to foster a sense of community through social, recreational and outreach programs.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort (KIGR)
kiawah-golfThe resort consists of the former Kiawah Island Inn property, the Straw Market in West Beach, Cougar Point Golf Course, the West Beach Tennis Center (including the West Beach pool and West Beach Cantina), the Roy Barth Tennis Center in East Beach (including the Tennis Center pool), the East Beach Conference center, Town Center Market, The Sanctuary hotel, the Night Heron Park, nature center and pool complex, Turtle Point Golf Course, Osprey Point Golf Course, The Ocean Course and Oak Point Golf Course on Johns Island.

Kiawah Partners (KP)
Kiawah-Partners-Logo-e1446493023347Kiawah Partners is the direct descendant of Kiawah Island’s original master planner, community developer and real estate sales organization. The consumer-facing entities owned by Kiawah Partners include the private Kiawah Island Club with its golf, wellness, sports, boating, dining and social facilities and activities, and Kiawah Island Real Estate.

Architectural Review Board (ARB)
kiawah-architecturalThe goal of the Kiawah Island Architectural Review Board (ARB) is to achieve an uncommon and visually pleasing blend of natural beauty and man-made improvements by providing standards and guidelines for community areas as well as residences, in accordance with the development’s comprehensive Master Plan. The ARB encourages environmentally sensitive design through a careful, well-thought-out response to configuration of a home site, the Lowcountry climate, existing vegetation, and topography of the building site.

Kiawah Island Conservancy
Conservancy-LogoThe Kiawah Conservancy’s mission is to provide the vision, leadership and resources necessary to preserve and enhance Kiawah Island’s unique balance of nature and development.  The Conservancy is an independent, research driven, non-political, not-for-profit organization.

It has the capability to be a holder of land and conservation easements, and as such, acts as a land trust. The Kiawah Conservancy is a member of the Land Trust Alliance and has adopted and subscribes to the Land Trust Standards and Practices as a guide for its organization and operations.

Kiawah Turtle Patrol
Turtle-Patrol-Logo-297x300The Kiawah Island Turtle Program has been in existence since 1973 and the Town of Kiawah Island has provided funding and logistical support to the program since 1990. Nesting efforts are by a group of resident volunteers each year.During the nesting season, volunteers patrol the entire beach by truck each morning to locate nests laid the previous night.
