Berkeley Electric Cooperative (BEC)

Berkeley Electric Cooperative provides electric service to Kiawah Island. It is a state-of-the-art electric utility serving over 80,000 accounts in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties, with over 5,000 miles of line connecting them all together. This makes BEC the largest electric cooperative in South Carolina and one of the top 25 in the nation. The electricity lines on the Island are all underground and available Island-wide. The cooperative works hard to maintain the electric lines on the Island, but power outages are common due to severe weather or damage to lines. If there is a power outage, please call Berkeley Electric Cooperative’s outage-reporting system at 888-253-4232.
